Coosa County schools is thankful to the Coosa County Farmers Federation Women’s Committee and its chairperson, Donna Brown, for sponsoring an essay contest for the high school students as part of their Farm-City Week celebration.
The committee also sponsored a poster contest for the elementary students. This year’s theme for the essays and posters was “Agritourism: Connecting farms and communities.”
The Central High School Student Government Association, or SGA, extends it gratitude to high school science teachers Jacques Mitchell, Alicia Thompson and Mary White who provided the opportunity for their students to write the essays, as well as science coach Shelley Wood, who coordinated the contest between the Coosa County Farmers Federation and the science teachers.
“The students wrote some outstanding essays with many students including personal stories from Coosa County experiences,” Wood said. “They really highlighted the many wonderful resources that Coosa has to offer. We were super proud of them!”
Congratulations to the essay contest winners in seventh through ninth grades: first place Elizabeth Clark, second place Christopher Joseph Prowell and third place Kirby Clark. Essay winners in tenth through twelfth grades were first place Kristasia Harkins, second place Abigail Hurt and third place Arqualis Roberson.
At Central Elementary School, poster contest winners for kindergarten through third grade were first place Yureidy Morales, second place Josselin Reyes and third place Presley Berry. Poster contest winners in fourth through sixth grade were first place Carter Tindall, second place Ellie Jones and third place David Kelly.
First place winners received $75, second place winners received $50, and third place received $25. At the high school level, the science teacher for each of the first place winners also received $75 for their classroom. For the elementary school, the homeroom teacher for each first place winner also received $75 for their classroom.
