Hope everyone is enjoying this warm weather after the extreme cold last week. I’ve seen many comments on Facebook about high power bills. I get daily notices of my power usage from the previous 24-hour period, so it’s a little stressful to see $30-plus usage for one 24-hour period.
However, I would rather have a few days of high-power usage than have frozen pipes. I keep a heat lamp on in my pump house when the weather starts to be freezing or below; however, I knew that as cold as it was, it would require more than just that one heat lamp. So, I set up my small electric heater; I guess I didn’t realize that I didn’t need to turn it up as high as I did. Needless to say, after the second consecutive day of over $30 power usage, I adjusted the setting. When I opened the door, it was warmer than my house! So, I’m thankful for the warmer weather, knowing that while my power bill will be significantly higher this month, I kept the water running and stayed nice and warm.
The Coosa County Historical Society will meet on January 28 at 2 p.m. at the Rockford Senior Center located on Alabama Highway 22 East next to the Rockford Event Center. If you have an interest in Coosa County history and are not a member, we welcome you. Dues are $15 per year per household. So, mark your calendars for Sunday, January 28, and see what we do. You don’t have to be a member to attend, but we welcome you to join. This will be a great opportunity to see the new Center if you haven’t already. Members provide refreshments.
Also, it’s tax season once again. Beginning on Wednesday, February 7, Volunteer Connections of Central Alabama will once again be providing tax preparation in Rockford at the Rockford Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. This is a free service to taxpayers over the age of 60 with any income amount. Also, taxpayers 59 and under with an income of $62,000 are served, also. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments will have priority. Call 256-234-0347 to make an appointment. Be sure you tell them it’s for the Rockford location. The main location for tax service is in Alexander City. We are located at 5030 U.S. Highway 280 in the State Farm building. This location takes appointments only.
The Bible verse I want to share is Ephesians 4:32, which reads, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God has forgiven you.”
An old saying goes, “If you can’t say something nice (kind), then don’t say anything.” The key is to be kind and nice to everyone, which is easier said than done. We never know what a person is experiencing, so give them the benefit of a smile or a kind word. It doesn’t cost us anything yet can make a big difference in someone’s life.
Pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
