Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Hard to believe that we are almost halfway through January. It’s been busy with holidays, so I’m ready to get back in a regular routine.
Want to give a shout out to Mr. Joe Collins who turned 104 on Thursday, January 11. He is still able to live at home and has a great memory. Congratulations, Mr. Joe, and many more!
School is back in session with a short day on Tuesday because of storms. Possibly more weather days ahead. They will be out on Monday, January 15, for Martin Luther King Day, so a short week.
Richville Neighborhood Watch met last week. The attendance was small; maybe next month will be better. They tabled any discussion about starting the Richville Crafters back, but are still taking donations of any craft supplies that you no longer want.
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department will have its first Bingo of the year tomorrow, January 13, at 6:30 p.m. for a fun night. They have concessions to sell, also. So come out and support the fire department and have fun and fellowship, too.
The Coosa County Historical Society will meet on January 28 at 2 p.m. at the Rockford Senior Center located on Alabama Highway 22 East. You don’t have to be a member to attend, but membership is always welcome. This will be a great opportunity to see the new Center if you haven’t already. Members provide refreshments.
It’s almost tax season! Volunteer Connections of Central Alabama will once again be providing tax preparation in Rockford at the Rockford Methodist Church. More details next week.
The plan I’m using to read the entire Bible in 2024 starts with Genesis and reads consecutive chapters until you end in Revelations. So, one of the verses I read this week is Genesis 15:1, which reads, “After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: ‘Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.’”
What does the shield mean? It is representative of God’s protection for us. He protects us from harm. At this point, God had called Abram to serve Him. However, Abram was still childless and didn’t understand God’s plan.
We are often like Abram; we want things to work on our time frame. Often we ask for God’s help, but we have preconceived ideas of how God should provide that help. But God works in His own way and time, so when our idea doesn’t happen, we think God hasn’t heard or answered our prayers. Our society today wants an instant or immediate reaction which often creates missed blessings.
Pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
