December 10

The J. D. Thompson Alumni Association is inviting everyone to “Christmas in the Grove” Sunday, December 10, from 1–3 p.m. This open house event is a time to celebrate the Christmas season, come out and see our Christmas decorations, and enjoy your favorite carols; light refreshments will be served. If you missed visiting with us this year, this is your chance to tour the historic elementary building and see the artifacts on display.  Don’t forget we are in the Cottage Grove community, 1723 County Road 30.

 

December 15

BridgeWays Coosa County will hold its next Kids Night Out on December 15, which will also be its annual Christmas Party. The party will include dinner, games and Christmas caroling throughout Rockford. The Kids Night Out is a three-and-a-half hour event where youth in pre-K through fifth grade can participate in activities and socialize with friends, which for the December 15 event includes the Christmas party. Drop-off is at 5:30 p.m. with pick-up at 9 p.m., and the cost is $12 per child. Families can register their children online at bridgewayscoosa.campbrainregistration.com. December 16

Third Saturday Trade Day in Millerville will be held at the Bibb Graves Community Center on Saturday, December 16, 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Shops open inside: toys, clothes, books, flowers, dishes, desks, tools, jewelry, collectibles, and more. Free outdoor vendor setup – no charge for outside setup for vendors, yard-sale items, arts and crafts, swap meet items. For more information call 205-317-7798. December 18

The monthly meeting for the Coosa County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will be held on Monday, December 18, at 10 a.m. at the District Office located at 226 Coosa County Road 157 in Hanover.

 

December 20-22, Jan. 2-5

BridgeWays Coosa County will have School’s Out Day Camp over the long winter break when youth are out of school, with the program being for children in pre-K through fifth grade. Day Camp allows local youth the opportunity to enjoy a broad range of enriching experiences and make new friends, all in a safe and secure environment. The upcoming School’s Out Day Camp session dates are December 20-22, January 2-5 and January 15. BridgeWays is closed the week of Christmas. Drop-off is at 7:30 a.m. with pick-up at 5:30 p.m., and the program includes breakfast, lunch, snacks, and activities. The cost is $20 per child, per day, and BridgeWays has sibling discounts and scholarships available. Families can register their children online at bridgewayscoosa.campbrainregistration.com. December 23-January 4

The Coosa County Landfill will be closed from Saturday, December 23, through Thursday, January 4. It will reopen with normal hours resuming Saturday, January 6.

 

Weekly

The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. Monthly

The Friends of Flagg Mountain host a potluck dinner (bring something to share) with entertainment by local musicians on the First Friday of every month. The Coosa County Republican Party meets the fourth Monday of every month at the Coosa County E-911 building in Rockford with refreshments at 6 p.m. and the meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. For more information email coosacountyrepublicans@gmail.com.

Richville Neighborhood Watch will be held the first Thursday of each month at the fire department, 13185 Coosa County Rd. 14, Rockford, 35136. The gathering begins with a potluck meal at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Come out and see what is happening in your community.

 

Quarterly

The Hanover Community Club and Neighborhood Watch will now hold quarterly gatherings at Andrews Chapel. These quarterly gatherings are held on the third Tuesday of March, June, September, and December at Andrews Chapel Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited and encouraged to attend.
