Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
I haven’t gotten the floor done yet on this old house. Farm issues to deal with. The goat has a broken leg; took three others to auction to slim things down here. Then had dogs that got into the yard and attacked our animals.
A prized Narraganset turkey was attacked and dragged down the road to its demise. Rooster dead, two hens and a guinea fowl missing, a traumatized turkey hen that has been crying for two days following me everywhere, and a flock of guinea fowl that are staying in the yard for once. It is hard to lose any animal, but especially hard when in such a malicious manner when I put up fences to protect them.
I am thankful my last four ducks and five geese were not harmed; however, my wish is that all animal owners would keep their animals restrained, especially dogs, but others can be destructive, as well, to neighbors.
I know the challenge because I dealt with a pair of mules who tore down fences to try and get to the horses down the road. I finally had to rehome them as they were going into neighbor’s properties and damaging lawns and gardens, which can be just as bad as attacking and killing vulnerable animals. And even though I miss them I know they now have a happy life with other equine to graze and have strong fences to keep them out of trouble.
Tomorrow, Saturday, November 25, is Community Bingo from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Equality Fire Department Lodge. This is a fund-raising event to support the Equality Volunteer Fire Department. It is $1 a card, and they will play 10 games with prizes.
Jenny’s General will be open today, Friday, November 24 from noon to 5 p.m., and tomorrow, Small Business Saturday, November 25 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There is no fourth Friday event at EPAC for November or December. Enjoy time at home with friends and family instead. There will be Open Mic Night on the second Friday, December 8, and Karaoke on third Friday, December 15.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
