A Stewartville man was arrested late last month for a sexual abuse charge stemming from a case with the Coosa County Department of Human Resources, or DHR.
On October 14, the Sheriff’s Office took a report regarding the sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old.
On that date, Deputy Payton responded to a residence in the Stewartville community to assist DHR with a case of a juvenile reporting being toughed inappropriately. After Payton and DHR took information at the residence, the investigation continued with interviews.
Further investigation determined that Joseph Oliver Burnett Jr., 53 years old of the Stewartville area, was arrested on October 20. He was charged with the sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old.
His bond was set at $10,000, and he was released on bond October 22 to await trial.
