Special to the News
The October festival held on Thursday, October 26, at the J. D. Thompson Alumni Building was a day filled with fun, fellowship, old school memories, games, and treats.
The senior citizens attending the event started the day with stimulating mind activities, puzzles, coloring pages, and a scarecrow craft.
President JoEtta Maxwell and the alumni board members welcomed everyone and highlighted the museum exhibits and renovation improvements made to the alumni building.
There were more than 30 seniors in attendance, and they were ready for the main event “Bingo;” it is always a favorite. The Bingo number caller was Willie Zeigler. The players were feisty and competitive, but Zeigler was in charge.
The lucky winners were Vennie Tuck, Lillian Leonard, Wanda McKinney, Lattie Hardy, Dianne Mitchell, Spencer Hardy, and Ruby Leonard.
The oldest senior attending the event was Levi Leonard, and the person that traveled the longest distance was Arthelma McKinney Van Dyke, all the way from Texas. The lunch menu for the day was chili, crackers, green salad, fruit, cookies, pink lemonade, and water.
The alumni board members were happy to see Probate Judge Richard Dean, as well as “Coosa County News” columnist and J. D. Thompson student Ruby Johnson Hardman; thank you for visiting.
We can never say thank you enough for the community support we receive from our dedicated volunteers, sponsors and District 3 County Commissioner Brandon Davis. Thank you for a great festival.
