Sardis Baptist has its fall festival scheduled for Sunday, October 29, beginning at 4 p.m. The theme is “Autumn leaves, JESUS does not!” They have activities for the whole family.
Everyone is invited to worship with Providence Baptist. Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. with classes for all age groups and worship service at 11. We also have Sunday night worship at 6 p.m.
On Sunday, October 29, we will have Pastor Appreciation Day with a fellowship meal after the morning service; all are invited. If you have not met our new pastor, Andy Dickson, this would be a great opportunity. You can bring a covered dish or not; we always have plenty with some good cooks!
The Coosa County Historical Society met last Sunday. Thanks to Debra Lamberth for opening the Edgewood Plantation home she and her late husband restored. It’s beautiful.
This is the last Sunday this year that the old jail will be open. I want to thank all the volunteers who have donated their time to open the old jail museum. Beginning November 9 and continuing every second Thursday of the month from 1 to 4 p.m. we will be cleaning the old jail, as well as cleaning and redoing the exhibits. Members are encouraged to participate, when possible, also anyone interested in becoming a member.
The Richville Neighborhood Watch will meet Thursday, November 2, for our regular monthly meeting. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. with a potluck supper immediately before at 6 p.m.
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department will have bingo on Saturday, November 18, at 6:30 p.m. Make plans to attend!
Please continue to be in prayer for Israel and its people, as well as the American families that have been killed or kidnapped. This is such a tragic situation which doesn’t show any signs of coming to an end any time soon.
My Bible verses this week are from I Peter 3:13-15 which read, “And who will harm you if you are deeply committed to what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear or be disturbed, but honor the Messiah as Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.”
The beginning of the passage asks a question that can be understood in two ways. First, if someone is trying to help others, most of the time they won’t be mistreated by those they are trying to help. Doing good seldom inspires people to seek revenge.
Second, sometimes Christians are hurt or killed because of their faith. The verses continue to tell us to do good regardless if we are harmed or persecuted. The world cannot take away anything that matters to us. Lastly, they tell us to be ready to tell what God has done for us and telling others about Jesus.
Pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
