So glad to be feeling better! The weather has been beautiful and finally feels like fall. Some of the leaves are turning already.
While it was a little windy, my granddaughter’s outdoor wedding last weekend was beautiful. Congratulations to Olivia and Kirklin Newsome! She was a beautiful bride. I enjoyed seeing and visiting with family and friends, also.
School’s out today, Friday, October 13, and on Monday, the sixteenth. Hope everyone enjoys the long weekend. The football team plays Fayetteville there tonight. Next Friday, October 20, is homecoming playing B.B. Comer. The game starts at 7 p.m. with the homecoming queen crowned and the court presented during half time.
If you don’t have a church family, you are welcome to attend Providence Baptist. Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. with classes for all age groups and worship service at 11. We also have Sunday night worship at 6 p.m.
Sardis Baptist has its fall festival scheduled for Sunday, October 29. More details later.
I’m sure everyone has heard about the war in Israel. So sad. About 10 years ago I visited many of the places that are now being attacked. Please be in prayer for Israel and its people, as well as the American families that have been killed or kidnapped.
My Bible verses this week are about peace. John 16:33 reads, “I have told you these things so that in ME you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”
Jesus is speaking about a different kind of peace, a Godly peace that we as Christians have regardless of our circumstances. He’s telling us that we will endure hardships and persecution, but as believers we should remain faithful. Christians shouldn’t react in panic or doubt, but have assurance that God is in control.
However, because we are human, we often let panic and doubt enter our lives when hardships happen. It’s hard to feel peaceful when others hurt you or your family, whether physical or mental. As I stated last week, it’s a comfort to know that God is with us regardless of our present circumstances. It’s easy to trust and be faithful when everything is going good for us; the true test of our convictions is during those times of trial.
I encourage prayer and reading of scriptures to help during those times. There’s an old saying that something is easier said than done. Often our faith is that way; we express it while everything is fine, but then doubt creeps in when things begin to fall apart in our lives. Again, that’s human nature or rather Satan trying to enter into our thoughts and minds.
Pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
