Union Square News
Ruby Johnson
“The Coosa County News” is doing a special article on a Coosa County High School class reunion. However, many of the people are special to me, and I would like to put a small highlight of it in my column.
The spearhead of this event, Mrs. Angela Leonard Stowes, is a sweet special lady, formerly from Union Square; a friend and schoolmate of my deceased daughter, Janice; and my niece Toni; and also a cousin of Toni. I was happy when she asked if “The Coosa County News” could print this great event of a Coosa County High School reunion of graduates from 1980-1988.
I was touched and very emotional when I saw and read the names of ones who have gone on to meet their maker written on a plaque, “In Loving Memory,” especially my daughter’s name and Union Square’s Belinda Lee, Kenny Windsor and Tekla Goggans, as well as Stanley (Stan) Lee, Eddie Leonard, Sherry Days, and Margaret Harrell of Rockford/Kellyton.
This reunion reminded me of my school years. I thank Angela and all of you who helped make this a wonderful occasion. Coosa County is still alive!
Let’s keep Anita Patterson, Thomas Taylor, Spencer Hardy, and the Town of Rockford in prayer, and pray for the Glass and Walker families and the Johnsons. I lost my cousin Calvin Walker, and the family really needs prayer. We are a close family.
I am always a positive person; however, I have to become negative sometimes to make hardheaded people understand, especially men. Don’t get me wrong. We need men, and they need us, but men do not like listening to women, or I’ll say they “hear” selective hearing (written with a chuckle). I encountered two incidences with two different hardheaded men, mine and someone else’s.
Mine did not listen to me and accidentally lost all his money to pay for something he had purchased with an embarrassing moment. His friend doing work in the house did not listen to me and could have been electrocuted, listening to a man instead of me. But God took care of both of them, as well as me, in a miraculous way! God is a good God. He can do anything but fail. He can move mountains out of your way. He is a wonderful God!
Happy birthday to Maxine R. Ware, Thelma Hill, Lee Cousin, and to all August babies. Happy belated birthday to Jonah Schmidt.
Our condolences and prayers go to Coosa County News’ Lydia Waters in the loss of her aunt Melba, her mom’s (Jean Waters’) last sibling.
What a great joy to have an ambulance service in Rockford. Thanks to the commissioners and everyone who played a part. Please everyone let’s vote “yes” and pay the $15 to keep it.
What a pleasure to ride on County Road 18/Nixburg Road in Rockford. My car tires say, “Wow, thank you, Mayor Scott White, and all of you who worked this out.”
