Mayor Scott White shared that the Town of Rockford is excited to have the County Road 18 and Nixburg Road paving projects completed.
The projects included paving a portion of County Road 18 east of U.S. Highway 231 by Accordia Health, as well as a portion of Nixburg Road west of Highway 231 from Triple R Cafe to Communication Drive, just past the Board of Education building.
White stated that the asphalt is a welcome sight to the town, especially since it has taken a while to be able to pave since it is “so expensive.”
“To pave an area of 3×5 is about $2,800,” White said. “We are looking for funding to be able to pave other roads, and the maintenance department is doing all it can to make them better until that happens. We would like to see all of the town roads asphalted one day, and we continue to work towards this goal.”
White added that the infrastructure in town is at the end of its life cycle. He mentioned that recently during paving they had a hole develop, which led to finding an “old, rusty, galvanized pipe” needing to be replaced.
“This happens to be the case throughout the town,” he said. “The citizens can help in this matter by shopping locally as much as possible. Revenue is a big factor, and paving is not cheap. We have to have growth, but this does not come without good infrastructure to support it. We are doing our best to make the town more inviting to potential investors or entrepreneurs that want to open a business here, but we all have to do more to make it inviting.”
White said that the town’s general fund has increased “two and a half times its original amount” and that going forward numerous updates should be seen around town.
He added that Rockford has received a grant for paving and beautification, stating that the town will start on those projects soon.
