Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
First, I need to clarify something from last week. I left out a word, so it changed the context of my sentence.
I was wishing happy birthday to all those celebrating in August. Then it should have read including my youngest “daughter” and oldest brother! Leaving out the word “daughter” made it sound as if I had two brothers celebrating birthdays in August.
By the time this is published, the first week of school will be completed. I was there the first day to help wherever needed. There were a few tears, but all the students seemed to be happy to be back in school to see their friends. So, remember to watch out in the mornings and afternoons for those yellow buses stopping to pick up students.
Richville Volunteer Fire Department had bingo last Saturday with a large crowd. Everyone enjoyed the fun and fellowship, even if they didn’t win anything. They will have another bingo night on September 16 at 6:30 p.m. Also, don’t forget to order your Boston Butt. They will be available on Saturday morning, September 2.
Union Baptist Church had its homecoming last Sunday. Then there is a correction about the date for their revival. It starts Sunday, August 13, at 6 p.m., then Monday–Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. The guest preacher is Bro. Caleb Willingham.
Providence Baptist Church is having Wednesday Night Bible Study at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Troglen is teaching from the book of Judges. Everyone is invited.
Next week, I will be able to report on the reorganization of the Richville Neighborhood Watch. If you didn’t make that meeting, maybe you’ll be able to attend the next one. It is important for our community, and I encourage everyone to join.
This week as school starts, I thought about being happy. We should strive for happiness in everything we do. Proverbs 17:22 reads, “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.”
Healthy and fulfilling lives come from having a positive mindset. That sounds easy, but it can be hard as we encounter life. It doesn’t make light of troubles we have, but to look at them with determination to overcome and not just give in.
Do away with the “poor me” mentality and search for a positive outcome. Remember Pollyanna? Her attitude was looking at things with positive thinking. That is not to be unrealistic in our thoughts, but to focus on what we can do instead of what we can’t.
Pray for those in our community that are facing life-changing sickness. We need to remember them, as well as their families that need to make difficult decisions during this time. There are several others in our community that are not feeling well, so please pray for their healing in God’s will, as well. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
