Robert Merle Green

A Childersburg man was arrested last Thursday on burglary and other charges following what seemed to be a strange series of events.
On July 20, Coosa County dispatch received a call from a victim stating that there was a suspicious vehicle at his residence. He was aware of the vehicle because of surveillance video from his home received on his phone.
Deputies responded to the scene to investigate the suspicious vehicle. They ran the license plate to learn who the vehicle belonged to and ultimately left the scene.
Later the victim called again as after returning home he found his residence was destroyed with broken windows and bullet holes in his trailer and out building.
Upon the deputies’ arrival to the scene, they found the suspect, Robert Merle Green, in the victim’s home. Green seemed to be passed out in the victim’s bed.
Deputies found numerous shell casings in the home, as well as firearms that did not belong to the victim.
The suspect’s vehicle was towed, and a search warrant was conducted for items that might be related to the case. That resulted in discovering many firearms and shell casings in the vehicle that matched those found in the house.
The investigation culminated in Green, 37 years old of Childersburg, being arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, discharging a firearm into an unoccupied dwelling, and cruelty to animals.
The animal cruelty charge came about because while shooting the house, Green reportedly shot one of the victim’s animals.
Second-degree burglary applies when an individual enters a residence with a firearm with the intent to commit a felony.
Green’s total bond for all four charges was set at $12,500. He was released on bond on July 25 to await trial.
Anyone who observes or suspects illegal activity is encouraged to report it to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4922 or online at www.coosacountyso.org. Anonymous tips are also welcome.
