A Coosa County woman was arrested late last month on an exploitation charge following an investigation.
It was reported to the Sheriff’s Office that Amber Dawn Barrett was taking advantage of an elderly victim while she was working for the victim.
During the investigation the victim’s financial records were examined, and it was determined that Barrett did receive more money than she was supposed to.
As a result, on June 30 investigators arrested Barrett, 38 years old of the Ray community, for first-degree financial exploitation of an elderly person. That charge comes about in cases in which the value of property taken exceeds $2,500, which constitutes financial exploitation of the first degree.
Barrett’s bond was set at $10,000. She was arrested June 30 and released on bond the same day to await trial.
