Central students participating in the summer SAFE Workforce Ready Program completed mock interviews this week. Students dressed in professional attire sat with a panel of three interviewers. Mock interviews provide these young job seekers confidence in interviewing before participating in their real job interviews. It is an opportunity to hone their communication skills and practice answering challenging questions they may face in a real interview.
Thank you to two former Central teachers who continue to serve our students, Calvin McKinney and Doris Gamble, as well as India Lane from SAFE for serving as our panel of interviewers. SAFE utilizes the pay-to-learn model; in other words the student participants are treated as employees who have to clock in and out and are paid for their time learning workforce-ready skills.
Students have also been preparing their cover letters and resumes and learning self-assurance, self-motivation, decision-making, stress relief, and priority-setting skills. The final phase of SAFE will include internships, co-ops, apprenticeships, or job shadowing opportunities.
