The Sheriff’s Office is hosting its inaugural softball tournament tomorrow afternoon with the Sheriff’s Office versus Coosa County fire and EMS.
This “Battle of the First Responders” will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow, June 17, at the Central softball field in Hanover. This is a community event, and it is free to the public.
However, the softball game will also serve as a fundraising opportunity for the annual Shop with the Sheriff. Every December the Sheriff’s Office takes children who may have difficulties with getting gifts during Christmastime, and they take them shopping.
This annual festive event brightens the children’s holiday season and is made possible thanks to the generosity of giving individuals and companies.
While the softball game will be free to attend, the Sheriff’s Office will be accepting donations for this cause.
Additionally, Lynn Anne Castleberry of Rockford will be overseeing concessions, and those will be sold to further help the fundraising efforts.
Donna Brown of Equality is also getting together baked goods that will be sold during the game tomorrow, with those funds also going toward this year’s Shop with the Sheriff.
Friends, family and the community are encouraged to come out and watch the game as members of the Sheriff’s Office go to bat against local members of the volunteer fire departments.
Sheriff Michael Howell said that all donations are greatly appreciated, and they also welcome all the help they can get for tomorrow’s event, whether it’s sponsors, donors, volunteers, or other capacities. He said any help that day is appreciated.
