H.P., T.D. and G.W. got a job working for the city. One day H.P. and T.D. had to work without G.W. being there to boss them around. That day H.P. was digging holes, and T.D. was following behind him and filling the holes in.
They worked hard all day without stopping to rest. H.P. would dig a hole, and T.D. would fill it up. A man watching was amazed at their hard work, but he couldn’t figure out what they were doing.
So he asked H.P., “I appreciate the effort you are putting into your work, but what’s the story? You dig a hole and your partner follows behind and fills it up again.”
H.P. wiped his brow and sighed, “Well, normally we are a three-man team, but G.W. is sick today, so he ain’t here to plant the trees.”
