Central athletes and their families were invited to the annual formal Athletic Banquet to recognize the accomplishments of our athletes. Athletic Director Deborah Phillips opened the program with a welcome, and Student Government Association (SGA) member Traci Cox led the attendees in the pledge and grace.
Mrs. Phillips honored a friend of the athletic department, Mr. Willie Ziegler, who was given a plaque. Mr. Willie has been instrumental in raising funds for our athletic programs for decades; we are thankful for his continuous support of the Central Coosa athletic programs.
The first recognition of the night was a special shadow box presentation to the family members of athlete Travanti Odem, who lost his life in a tragic car accident this spring.
Principal Lee then recognized our Scholar Athletes who not only excel athletically, but also academically. Athletes and their families enjoyed a meal and fellowship as each of the sports recognized their respective athletes. SGA members provided and served cake and coffee to attendees throughout the evening. Superintendent of Education David Stover provided closing remarks. Although it was a night for our athletes’ accomplishments to shine, we want to thank all our coaches who worked to prepare recognition items for their athletes and all the time they put into our athletes.
