Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Ms. Lacyfeathers, my young hen that disappeared the day I saw a fox in the area, has not returned. I am heartbroken, but this is a reality of farm life unfortunately. Now I just have Ms. Little Red Hen, Ms. Barred Rock and Mr. Fancytail, an American game bird who came in with a storm and never left, but is a perfect gentleman rooster to the ladies.
And so excited that today is the first day for CSA pickup from Coosa Fancy; I have been waiting more than a month since I signed up. I have been watching their posts on Facebook, and their produce just looks wonderful. I will have to arrange for a friend to pick up my first box though, because we have a funeral of a dear friend to attend, and I won’t be able to and don’t want to miss it.
Equality Methodist Church has invited the community to their Church Revival on Sunday, May 21, at 5 p.m. Brother Wayne Cowhick will be preaching, with singing by Scott Blake. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome, so please come out and join them.
Equality Performing Arts Center (EPAC) has no event tonight as it has been CANCELED, because of attending the funeral. The next event will be karaoke on the third Friday, May 19.
While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food, and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. The EPAC provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn.
The next Equality Neighborhood Watch Meeting is on the fourth Thursday, May 25. Come and hear what is happening in the community, as well as enjoy some food and fellowship, bring a dish to pass if you wish, but not mandatory or expected.
I know that I mention the Equality Volunteer Fire Department (EVFD) every week, but I do so for the simple reason that they are absolutely needed by our community. There are still a few fundraising tickets available for pork ribs and pork butts for Memorial weekend. You can contact a board member for your tickets. Boston butts are $35, and ribs are $30. Also, do not forget everyone is welcome to attend their first and third Monday training meetings, even if only to just watch the firefighters do their training.
Also, still regarding fundraising, my husband, Rodger, is seeking donations to sponsor his efforts with this year’s “Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride.” The DGR is an annual worldwide event, done in conjunction with the “Movember Foundation,” to raise funds, and awareness, for prostate cancer and men’s mental health. Additional information and donations can be made at: www.gfolk.me/AlaBeemer.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; call or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
