The Shepherd’s Closet and Manna Ministry of Rockford Baptist Church, or RBC, held its first Super Saturday Giveaway on April 29 with more than 100 people attending.
The Shepherd’s Closet is a ministry of RBC to help those individuals and families of Coosa County in need of toiletries, household products and gently used clothing for infants to adults.
Manna Ministry is another ministry of RBC to help those individuals and families with food assistance. During the past few years with the rising costs of utilities, medicine and cost of living, individuals are having to make choices on what to spend their money on, and usually “food” is the area that gets cut.
Those in attendance on Super Saturday were able to partake in receiving free hot dogs and nachos. Sowing Seed Ministry of RBC had a tent set up providing a free blood pressure check, free Bibles, a free Jesus DVD, and an opportunity to share the gospel to those who attended.
The children in attendance were able to enjoy a bouncy house and slide while their parents were shopping. The children also received a free “Faith” bracelet and candy.
The Shepherd’s Closet provided families with a bag of “goodies” including a bar of soap, toothpaste, shampoo, razors, lotion, dental floss, and hand sanitizer.
Families were also provided with a toothbrush for each member of their family. Gently used summer clothing was set up for the families to go through and choose from.
Manna Ministry in conjunction with Feeding America and the Montgomery Area Food Bank was able to provide numerous individuals and families with 2,000 pounds of food, fresh fruits and vegetables.
The Shepherd’s Closet has two more Super Saturdays scheduled for 2023. Go ahead and mark your calendars for July 29 and October 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The July and October Saturdays are in the planning stage at this time.
Between the Super Saturday giveaways if a resident of Coosa County is in need of help with food assistance, toiletries, or clothing they can contact the office at Rockford Baptist Church at 256-377-4900 Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and schedule a date and time to come pick up the items needed.
The Shepherd’s Closet and Manna Ministry are funded through donations. If anyone would like to make a donation to either ministry, you can make your checks out to Rockford Baptist Church, and in the memo section write in the ministry that you are giving to.
