After a 3-1 season last year, with a dynamic offense and a steadfast defense, the 2025 Central Coosa Junior High-Junior Varsity football team is looking at a year for re-building.
The current team has less than a fourth of this year’s players returning from last season, with the heart of last year’s team now playing on the varsity squad. With hard-fought losses on the road to Sylacauga (14-6) and Fayetteville (16-12), there is room for mental and physical skill development and on-field performance.
The young Cougars played a Sylacauga team that was much larger in both physical size and numbers. It was difficult to single out specific participants because of shared beginning-of-the-year mistakes and tremendous effort demonstrated from every player who entered the game. Kendel Luke, Matt McCain and Darion Jones are among those who played well.
At Fayetteville, the Cougars suffered several injuries that significantly hindered the team. In addition, costly mistakes, both offensively and defensively, were made that led to the loss.
Dee Davis, Lathan Spradley and Braylon Murray had a good game offensively, and Matt McCain along with Kam Griffin, Kendel Luke and Darion Jones had good plays defensively.
This team is full of potential, and there is a desire from the players to learn and improve.
The team travels to Vincent on September 16 for their next game, with the first home game scheduled against Lafayette on September 23. Come support our young Cougars. Tickets can be purchased on GoFan.co.
Thank you to Dr./Coach Conkle for sharing information on his team and his dedication to growing the Cougar football program.
