Special to the News
Family and Consumer Science teacher Mrs. Worley recently took eight of her students to the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Leadership Conference in Montgomery. The students competed in various events to showcase their projects.
Ruby Burks competed in Sports Nutrition and won a silver medal. Elizabeth Clark and Elizabeth Moore competed in Interior Design and won silver medals.
Tatum Larrabee and Destini Kelley had to merge their Focus on Children projects together when they got to the competition. One of the projects was how divorce affects children, and the other was about the social skills needed for young kids to make friends. Even though they only had about five minutes to come up with the combined information to share with the judges, they won silver medals.
Kelsey Sizemore competed in Repurpose and Redesign and created a bird feeder out of Frisbees and a tin can and won a bronze medal. Kaylyn Gould competed in Public Policy Advocate with her topic of child abuse, and she won a bronze medal. A’maiya Jackson competed in Fashion Construction and created a dress from scratch without a pattern or any formal classes on sewing and won a bronze medal.
Kaylyn Gould was also the Central FCCLA chapter voting delegate and met the candidates running for state FCCLA officers. She cast her vote and did a great job with her choices as five out of the six she voted for won a state office.
Mrs. Worley is proud of all her students for stepping out of their comfort zones and competing at the FCCLA State Leadership Conference. It was a great learning and growing experience for everyone.
