On Tuesday, January 9, the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) Law Enforcement Services Division, or LESD, arrested two correctional officers.
Eli Charlie DeRamus and Bunion Thomas were charged with use of official position for personal gain and transported to the Elmore County Jail.
Both officers resigned their positions with the ADOC. The LESD investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be pending.
Commissioner John Q. Hamm stated, “The ADOC continues to combat illegal contraband being introduced to the state’s correctional facilities, whether it is introduced from the inside or the outside. There is no place for corrupt personnel at ADOC.”
