My name is Joshua Lee Jones, and I am asking for your vote on November 8 for sheriff of Coosa County.
Although many people in the community already know me, I would like to share some of my background with you all.
I went to school at Kellyton Elementary School, Kellyton Junior High School, and then Central High School. I was baptized at Kellyton Baptist Church where my family and I have been members for many years.
I also served as a volunteer firefighter with the Kellyton Volunteer Fire Department. I have lived in Coosa County nearly my entire life, and I will always call it home.
For those of you that I have yet to meet, my experience speaks for itself. I have been a law enforcement officer for 15 years, 11 of which I served as a deputy in Coosa County under Sheriff Terry Wilson.
After serving our county, I decided to expand my knowledge base and experience by joining the Sylacauga Police Department. In the four years that I have been serving there as an officer, I continued to live in Coosa where I work with organizations to better serve our community.
I’ve spent my years in law enforcement training and studying to learn everything I could to be the best law enforcement officer I could be. I took an oath to the constitution when I became a law enforcement officer, and I live by that oath every time I put on my uniform. To serve and to protect is a job requirement, but this is more than a job to me… it is who I am.
When I’m elected sheriff of Coosa County, I promise to serve each and every individual in the county equally. As an officer and as your sheriff, I believe that everyone is entitled to equal protection under the law, no matter their race, “status,” religion, or political affiliation.
I will make sure that all our deputies are certified and qualified to serve our community. I will make sure that our county has enough deputies on duty at all times to provide security and protection, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
In the past, there have been hours during the night where deputies have not been on duty. Which means if an emergency happens, it can take hours for an officer to respond. There will be no security gap in our county while I’m sheriff.
I’m going to make sure there is a school resource officer on duty during school hours to provide protection and security for our children. No parent should have to worry about the safety of their children while they are at school. I will make sure they do not have to.
I will also make sure that we protect school buses, children and bus drivers in our county. I am going to put a special emphasis on prosecuting drivers that run past stopped school buses.
I will bring the narcotics officer position back to the Sheriff’s Office. I believe that drug use leads to theft, property crimes and violence. By bringing this position back to Coosa County, we will have a better chance to end drug-related crimes.
I will work with all the police and fire departments in our county and surrounding counties to provide the best service possible. It is important that we can work together to take better care of our citizens and our communities. I will make sure that we all have the tools to serve and protect Coosa County.
I will be sure to stay involved with neighborhood/community watch meetings throughout the county – even when it’s not an election year. Our citizens work hard to keep their property and families safe and secure, and they deserve to know their sheriff supports them no matter what. When elected, there will be no doubt that Sheriff Jones is backing your community.
I will introduce new policies and procedures that all staff must know, and will adhere to, which will help to improve all interactions. Service should be the first priority of any professional law enforcement agency, like the Sheriff’s Office. I’ll make sure that it is.
I will make sure the county jail is run safely and securely. I will implement policies and procedures to make certain that the correctional officers are safe and the inmates stay secure and compliant.
I will ensure that all the cases that go to trial are solid. Our investigators and deputies will not be allowed to stack charges.
Finally, even after the election, I will provide a real open door policy at the Sheriff’s Office that will provide safety and service to all. If any citizen ever has a problem they can sit down with me, and we can work together to find a solution.
If I am your choice for sheriff of Coosa County, please remember to mark your ballot for Joshua Jones, Independent.
I am not only excited, but I am looking forward to serving as your sheriff of Coosa County. If you have any questions or would like to get to know me better, please email me at joshjones22123@gmail.com.
I’m looking forward to bringing professionalism, trust, and compassion back to the Sheriff’s Office and the county we serve. Thank you.
