In a special evening program, seniors, family, friends, and faculty were beaming with pride as our seniors were awarded $1,220,167.20 in scholarships. Taking into account there are 36 graduating seniors in the class of 2022, that is an even more impressive award amount. Pictured is senior Jon Kelley receiving the Building the Bridge Scholarship from Mr. Hudson Hinton for $10,000. Thank you to the numerous organizations who sent representatives to award our seniors with their scholarships.
Seniors were also recognized for their academic excellence, including 3.5-plus grade point average, Outstanding Student and Most Improved Student in each subject, and Top 10 seniors, including Valedictorian Raamiah Gaddis and Salutatorian Mallory Parrish.
Top 10 seniors also had the opportunity to present a faculty member with a Golden Apple Award in appreciation for what they do. Although many times teachers receive these awards, the recipients this year remind us that everyone in the building has the opportunity to make a difference in the life of our students. Pictured are Zakiya McGinnis awarding her Golden Apple to lunchroom worker, Debra Hawthorne, and Mallory Parrish awarding her Golden Apple to Science Coach, Shelley Wood.
Three seniors enlisted in the military were also honored for their service to our nation, Zakiya McGinnis, Daja Pearson and Tucker Skinner.
The first place winners of the senior Escape Room Game received a framed copy of the U.S. Constitution, and the first place team of the Alabama Stock Market Game, out of 220 teams in Central Alabama, received their award checks. Six seniors who were Student Government Association members received their medals for a combined total of 187 hours volunteered in service to their school and community. Everyone could feel the Cougar Pride in the Central Gym.
