Union Square News

Congratulations to Kaylyn Gould, Miss Sixth Grade for CES.
Beautiful drawing by Ophelia “Opie” Gould
Young people corner: Union Square has two young, talented, gifted, and precious girls, Ophelia (Opie) and Kaylyn Gould, who allow God to use them wherever they are; school, church, etc.; and the good thing about them, they are sisters and the granddaughters of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Taylor, who are the kindest neighbors you would want to live next to.
Opie loves to draw, and she does it very well. One Sunday in church she was observing me praising God, and she took a moment and drew me, not aware she was doing it. When the service was over she came over to me and gave me this paper.
I looked and said, “Oh that’s nice,” not noticing that it was me until her grandmother said, “It’s you.” Then I noticed everything about it was me – the hair, the outfit and the way I praise. I was so touched that tears filled my eyes.
She praise dances herself for the church, along with her sister, Kaylyn, and Pastor and Lady Hill’s three daughters, Dakota, Madison and Trinity. They all touched my heart for the things they do for Christ. They are some sweet, precious young girls, and I love all of them. Their personality puts joy into my heart, even when my heart is sometimes sad.
When Kaylyn became Miss Sixth Grade for Central Elementary School Coosa County in Hanover, she gave everyone joy. We are very proud of her, and we congratulate her and all the 40 pageant contestants of the CES pageant, including Tiny Miss K-1, Evianna White.
Happy birthday to Union Square’s Sherry Shaw’s grandson Dustin Shaw, who will turn 13 years old on April 30 (tomorrow). Birthday wishes go to all April young children.
Remember, the Union Square Neighborhood Watch will meet on Monday, May 2, at 6 p.m.
Union Square wishes Johnny and Robin Schmidt 36 years of bonded love on April 6, and wishes their son Cody a blessed and happy birthday, which was on April 8; 32 years of love from your mom, dad and brother, Jonah.
Happy anniversary to Lee and Frankie Cousin on April 26, 53 years of true love.
Our prayers go out to the families of Mrs. Levelma Simmons, and to the families of Elder Timothy Patterson with much sympathy!
Some deaths hurt more than others, and Mrs. Levelma Simmons is one of those. It was so painful for me. I could not attend her home-going. It is very difficult for me to write about her.
I know everyone must leave this earth, but I had never put it in my mind and heart that Mrs. Simmons would leave us.
I loved that lady. She meant so much to me. She helped me to become who I am today.
She was a very kind person who helped everyone, not just me. However, I have to give her credit for what she has done for me.
Mrs. Simmons was the best teacher out of all my teachers in school. A young teacher fresh out of college, and me being a young teenager, she taught me who I was and who I could become.
I was an “A” student in her English class, but insecure of me making As, thinking she gave them to me because she knew some of my insecurities and she knew my mother, but no, that wasn’t it.
I could not understand why it was easy for me to make As and being insecure and hard for others, especially with nouns, verbs, pronouns, etc. I questioned her.
She encouraged me and let me know I earned every bit of my As. She did not give them to me. My mother made me a strong girl, but Mrs. Simmons threw me the rope and carried me through to become a strong, brave and self-confident woman.
I would not be writing today if it wasn’t for Mrs. Levelma Simmons. Community college didn’t do it. N.Y.U., New York University, didn’t do it. L.V.S., Levelma Simmons did it!
