March 1-April 30
The Alabama Cooperative Extension System invites the community to participate in a new family activity challenge from March 1 through April 30. Move Alabama, a collaboration between SNAP-Ed and EFNEP at Auburn University, encourages everyone to get up and get moving with your family, friends and neighbors. Twenty different challenges are available throughout the community and can be completed on your own time. Anyone interested in participating can come by the Extension Office (located behind the County Courthouse) at 13999 AL Highway 22, Rockford, starting March 1 and pick up a printed log to track their progress. Those who complete and return the log will receive a GO! bag and be entered into a drawing for different prizes. For more information call the Coosa County Extension office at 256-377-4713.
April 18-July 29
The Goodwater Parks & Rec 2022 Summer Program will be held June 6 through July 29 for ages 4-15 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Summer Program will feature arts and crafts, 4-H, reading, bowling, skating, and many more fun activities. Breakfast and lunch will be served each day. Masks are required. Registration starts April 18, and the registration fee is $25, which must be paid at the time of registration. April 30
Weogufka’s annual Mule Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, at the Weogufka Center from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. Sausage biscuits and hot coffee will be sold beginning at 7 a.m. in the home economics building. Food, rides, vendors, bluegrass music on and off stage, children’s activities, fried apple pies, and more! Parking is $5. Vendor booths are $30. Limited camping hookups are available. Family Game Night Bingo will be held at the Millerville Community Center on Saturday, April 30, from 5-8 p.m. Cash jackpot for winning on first five numbers called. Prize of $50 for blackout bingo. Begin with hot dogs, chips, soft drinks, and dessert for minimal charge.

Hippie Haven will be held at Triple R Cafe in Rockford on Saturday, April 30, at 3:30 p.m.! Come and bring your family and friends to the cafe for this family event. Dress in your grooviest clothes, buy a great meal and donate to the Coosa County Animal Shelter that is now under development! You can find out more about the shelter on its Facebook page or look for updates in the Coosa newspaper. A prize will be given to the hippiest dressed male and the hippiest dressed female! The C.O.A.C.H. (Cancer Outreach and Community Hope) Ribs, Rhythms and Remembrances will be held May 6 from 5-8:30 p.m. at the West Coosa Senior Center track in Stewartville. Rib plates will be available for $20 each and rib slabs for $30 each. All plates and slabs must be pre-ordered by May 1. Survivors walk will be at 6 p.m. Music by the Lard Bucket Band. Bring your chairs and enjoy the music under the stars.

Coming to the Weogufka Center’s Amphitheater, country music’s great T. Graham Brown! Also performing will be the Griffith Family. This concert will be held Saturday, May 7, beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online at www.griffithfamilymusic.com or at the door. You may also call 256-369-1098 for ticket locations. Let your light shine! The Goodwater Police Department is inviting citizens to join them on Monday, May 16, at 8 p.m. “One team, one fight, one prayer can change everything!” Chief Corey Shaw and the department are asking the citizens within the city limits and police jurisdiction of Goodwater to let their lights shine by flashlight or cell phone. Citizens are welcome to come to the Goodwater Police Department, or to come stand on the sidewalk and around town or in the parking lot. Let’s stand together and fight crime.

June 3-August 5
BridgeWays will be offering a day camp this summer in Coosa County, open to children entering kindergarten through fifth grades in fall 2022. The day camp will be held at the Rockford Event Center from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Breakfast and two snacks will be served daily. Activities will include outdoor games, field trips, service projects, reading support, arts and crafts, social skills, team building, and more. Held on Fridays from June 3 through July 1, $15 per day. Week-long dates include July 5-8 for $64 since it is a short week, and $80 for week-long day camps from July 11-15, July 18-22, July 25-29, and August 1-5. The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. Quarterly
The Hanover Neighborhood Watch Meeting is held quarterly, typically on the third Tuesday of the month, at the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department building at 6:30 p.m. The spring meeting will be held the third Tuesday in March, the summer meeting on the third Tuesday in June, and the fall meeting on the third Tuesday in September. The winter meeting will be held in December, with the date to be determined at the fall meeting. Always a potluck meal before the meeting begins, and sometimes a special program to follow. Everyone is cordially invited and encouraged to attend. Y’all come!
