Central Cougars Varsity’s early lead over Winterboro sets stage for victory in senior night game

Central jumped out to an early lead over Winterboro and took home an 18-8 victory last Thursday. Central scored on a double by Alissa Cosby, a single by Markee Goff, a single by Emma Whaley, a stolen base by Whaley, a walk by Abbeie Smith, a passed ball during Brynli Mitchell’s turn at bat, a single by Cosby, a double by Goff, a walk by Whaley, and a stolen base by Goff in the first inning.
Brynlee Hawthorne led things off in the circle for Central. Hawthorne lasted five innings, allowing seven hits and eight runs while striking out six and walking one.
Central racked up nine hits. Cosby, Goff, Whaley, and Hawthorne all collected multiple hits for Central of Coosa County Cougars Varsity. Hawthorne, Whaley, Goff, and Cosby all had two hits to lead Central. Smith led Central with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with 13 stolen bases.

Pre-game Coach Elliott and Coach Weeks honored their seniors. Brynli Mitchell was joined by her grandparents, Rose and John Mitchell. Brynli has played softball for Central for 6 years. After high school she will attend Southern Union Community College on a full ride scholarship and then transfer to the University of South Alabama to earn her nursing degree.
Daja Pearson was joined by her parents, Debra and Winston Pearson. Daja has also played softball for Central for 6 years. After high school Daja will be enlisting with the U.S. Army Reserves while attending Troy University to earn a degree in business administration.
