An Alexander City man and woman were arrested Monday on multiple drug-related and other charges following a traffic stop.
Sheriff Michael Howell reported that on April 25 Deputy Logan Mitchell and Reserve Deputy Shane Payton were on patrol in the Rockford area. They conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for displaying a tag that came back to a stolen vehicle.
After stopping the vehicle, the initial investigation determined that the driver, 63-year-old Randall Jordan of Alexander City, had a felony warrant in Kentucky for trafficking methamphetamine. He was placed under arrest for that warrant, and methamphetamine was found on him at that time.
Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and found numerous illegal narcotics and two firearms. Those included more than 58 grams of methamphetamine, a shotgun, a pistol, Suboxone, cocaine, more than 8 grams of marijuana, numerous illegal pills, grinders, pipes, and syringes.
Jordan also had a passenger in the vehicle at the time, and she was identified as 46-year-old Stephanie Smith of Alexander City. Both were arrested on the scene.
Howell reported that both were charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of cocaine, possession of a pistol by a violent felon, five counts of possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana.
Jordan’s total bond for the nine charges is in excess of $70,000, and Smith’s total bond for all charges is in excess of $65,000. As of press time both remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
Howell stated that he is proud of his deputies for their hard work and dedication to keep the county a safe place to live.
