Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Well, this past week we have had some more cold mornings with a couple of light frosts. Hope everyone’s plants and garden survived if you have already planted.
Usually, Good Friday is the day to plant because the chances of frost afterward are slight. Guess this is one of the years that we will have late frost.
Our sunrise service didn’t see the sunrise because of the clouds, but the rain held off, so we were still able to have it on the hill in the cemetery behind the church. We had close to 30 present. I saw several posts on Facebook from other area sunrise services, as well. Seems they were all well attended regardless of the weather.
Concord Baptist Church will be celebrating 177 years of service with Homecoming on May 1 beginning at 10:30 a.m. Lance Driskell will be the guest singer, and Brian Blakely, associate pastor of Popular Springs Church, will be the guest speaker. Everyone is invited. Fellowship meal will follow.
Providence will have its Homecoming celebrating 180 years on June 12. More about that later.
Tax season is over! While the deadline was on April 18 this year instead of the fifteenth, there was no extension as in the past couple of years.
I don’t know if people thought it would be extended or what, but the last week of the season was crazy at VCCA. I wasn’t sure we would finish all the returns and get them filed, but it happened. Thanks to the volunteers that gave extra to make sure that we would clear all the returns by the deadline. We have a great bunch of volunteers that work well together.
Just a reminder from last week that the Historical Society will meet on Sunday, April 24, at 2 p.m. at Twenty-Two & Crew in Rockford. Ronnie Joiner, our vice president, will present the program. Ronnie is a fountain of knowledge on Coosa County and always has an interesting topic to share.
You don’t have to be a member to attend, but we welcome anyone interested in joining. We will be discussing plans for our fiftieth anniversary and other items. Refreshments are furnished by the members.
My Bible verse to share this week is James 5:16, which reads, “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
Often, on Facebook, comments are more negative than positive. This made me think of how often instead of praying for someone that is having troubles, we encourage negativity. Then the last part to me states the power of a prayer warrior. I have a couple of friends that are definitely prayer warriors that I often call on. However, we should all strive to be a prayer warrior.
Continue to keep those who have lost loved ones recently in your prayers. There are several in our community that are not feeling well, and others have family that are having health issues. Please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs.
Until next week, take care and be joyful!
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
