March 1-April 30

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System invites the community to participate in a new family activity challenge from March 1 through April 30. Move Alabama, a collaboration between SNAP-Ed and EFNEP at Auburn University, encourages everyone to get up and get moving with your family, friends and neighbors. Twenty different challenges are available throughout the community and can be completed on your own time. Anyone interested in participating can come by the Extension Office (located behind the County Courthouse) at 13999 AL Highway 22, Rockford, starting March 1 and pick up a printed log to track their progress. Those who complete and return the log will receive a GO! bag and be entered into a drawing for different prizes. For more information call the Coosa County Extension office at 256-377-4713.


April 16

The Coosa County High School Alumni Banquet will be held Saturday, April 16, with a meet and greet starting at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. Banquet will be held at the new gymnasium, also known as the Rockford Event Center, across from the Sheriff’s Office. Because of COVID-19 hindering us from meeting in the past, we will be honoring the classes of 70, 71 and 72. Bring a covered dish to share. Drinks, cutlery, paper products, and ice will be provided.


April 18-July 29

The Goodwater Parks & Rec 2022 Summer Program will be held June 6 through July 29 for ages 4-15 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Summer Program will feature arts and crafts, 4-H, reading, bowling, skating, and many more fun activities. Breakfast and lunch will be served each day. Masks are required. Registration starts April 18, and the registration fee is $25, which must be paid at the time of registration. April 18

The Coosa County Soil and Water Conservation District supervisors will meet on Monday, April 18, at 10 a.m. at the Coosa Soil and Water District Office located at 226 Coosa County Road 157, Rockford.


April 22

EPAC (Equality Performing Arts Center) presents Spring Songwriters Night: An evening with five singer/songwriters April 22 at 7 p.m. at 560 Alabama Highway 9, Equality, 36026. Featuring Allen Sanders, Larry Mitchell, Roger Vines, Mike Saunders, and Ed Pickett.


April 23

A PALS Clean-up for County roads 30, 97, 79, and Mitchell Circle is scheduled for April 23, beginning at 8 a.m., at the old J.D. Thompson School in Cottage Grove. Volunteers will meet at the school to get supplies and begin the clean-up. Sponsored by: J.D. Thompson Alumni, JDT—Community & Economic Development Corporation and Commissioner Unzell Kelley.


April 30

Weogufka’s annual Mule Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, at the Weogufka Center from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. Sausage biscuits and hot coffee will be sold beginning at 7 a.m. in the home economics building. Food, rides, vendors, bluegrass music on and off stage, children’s activities, fried apple pies, and more! Parking is $5. Vendor booths are $30. Limited camping hookups are available. May 7

Coming to the Weogufka Center’s Amphitheater, country music’s great T. Graham Brown! Also performing will be the Griffith Family. This concert will be held Saturday, May 7, beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online at or at the door. You may also call 256-369-1098 for ticket locations. May 13

Goodwater Parks & Rec will host Movie Night at 7 p.m. Friday, May 13, at the Goodwater Auditorium. Ages 10-17. Entry: $3. For more information call 256-743-1252.

June 3-August 5

BridgeWays will be offering a day camp this summer in Coosa County, open to children entering kindergarten through fifth grades in fall 2022. The day camp will be held at the Rockford Event Center from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Breakfast and two snacks will be served daily. Activities will include outdoor games, field trips, service projects, reading support, arts and crafts, social skills, team building, and more. Held on Fridays from June 3 through July 1, $15 per day. Week-long dates include July 5-8 for $64 since it is a short week, and $80 for week-long day camps from July 11-15, July 18-22, July 25-29, and August 1-5. The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. The Hanover Neighborhood Watch Meeting is held quarterly, typically on the third Tuesday of the month, at the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department building at 6:30 p.m. The spring meeting will be held the third Tuesday in March, the summer meeting on the third Tuesday in June, and the fall meeting on the third Tuesday in September. The winter meeting will be held in December, with the date to be determined at the fall meeting. Always a potluck meal before the meeting begins, and sometimes a special program to follow. Everyone is cordially invited and encouraged to attend. Y’all come!
