Pet of the Week: Lavender
Such weather changes are confusing for the dogs, but most of them don’t like the rain while some love it.
We had two of our dogs groomed last week, the two whose hair grows the quickest, to give them a break with incoming spring. I know the laugh is on me. Some dogs’ hair grows shaggy, some get knotted when not brushed, and some have short tresses like a doberman’s and don’t need a full grooming. They will still need toenails, including dew claws, trimmed at regular intervals. My dogs do not like anything done to their feet, but we usually come to an agreement.
The humane shelters are certainly filling up. The one in Tuscaloosa was begging the public as they need foster families to care for those recovering from health issues and other needs. The Elmore County Shelter would love to find homes for at least half of the residents at the Wetumpka location on Highway 9, and they also have a great need for foster families, as well. A little more warmth and there will be litters of puppies and kittens. If you couldn’t or wouldn’t want to provide for an animal indefinitely, but love the babies, maybe loving a litter would be just the thing.
The featured adoptable dog this week is Lavender. She is a 4 year old, 45-pound female retriever mix that became a ward of the humane shelter after her owner passed away. Lavender has completed her treatment for heartworms and is now ready to find her forever home. She’s a very sweet girl, loves attention and is good with other dogs and children. She’d really just love to be a lapdog.
So if you would like to meet Lavender or another dog at the shelter, you just complete an application and contact the shelter via phone to 334-567-3377 or email hselco@bellsouth.net, and once that is approved, you will get an appointment to visit.
Until next time,
