February 9-April 6
Volunteer Connections of Central Alabama Inc. (VCCA), along with the Coosa County Extension Office and Coosa County Chamber of Commerce, sponsors a free tax assistance program and will be offering free income tax services. Certified and trained tax preparers will provide free tax assistance and electronic filing of federal and state income tax forms in Rockford every Wednesday beginning February 9 through April 6 at the E-911 building in Rockford from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. If your income is $57,000 or less you can file your taxes through VCCA, or if you are 60 years and older with any amount of income. Call VCCA in Alexander City at 256-234-0347 to make an appointment for the Rockford location. Your visit will take about 20 minutes, as this is a DROP-OFF SERVICE ONLY. You will be called to sign and pick up your completed return. Once this is completed, your federal and state income tax forms will be electronically filed.
March 1-April 30
The Alabama Cooperative Extension System invites the community to participate in a new family activity challenge from March 1 through April 30. Move Alabama, a collaboration between SNAP-Ed and EFNEP at Auburn University, encourages everyone to get up and get moving with your family, friends and neighbors. Twenty different challenges are available throughout the community and can be completed on your own time. Anyone interested in participating can come by the Extension Office (located behind the County Courthouse) at 13999 AL Highway 22, Rockford, starting March 1 and pick up a printed log to track their progress. Those who complete and return the log will receive a GO! bag and be entered into a drawing for different prizes. For more information call the Coosa County Extension office at 256-377-4713.
April 2
Equality Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its monthly first Saturday fundraiser this Saturday, April 2, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. They will be having hamburgers, hot dogs, a bake sale, and a rummage sale in Equality at the old fire station (by the Quality Gas Station) on Alabama Highway 9. Lunch will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bake sale begins at 8 a.m., and the rummage sale will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come out and support your local VFD!
April 6
The Coosa County Extension Office will host Homemade Jams and Jellies Demonstration Workshop on April 6, from 1-3 p.m., at the E-911 Center located at 66 Communication Drive, Rockford. Fee: $5. Registration fee can be paid at the Extension Office (located beside the County Courthouse) at 13999 Alabama Highway 22, Rockford, 35136.
April 18-July 29
The Goodwater Parks & Rec 2022 Summer Program will be held June 6 through July 29 for ages 4-15 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Summer Program will feature arts and crafts, 4-H, reading, bowling, skating, and many more fun activities. Breakfast and lunch will be served each day. Masks are required. Registration starts April 18, and the registration fee is $25, which must be paid at the time of registration. April 30
Weogufka’s annual Mule Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, at the Weogufka Center from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. Sausage biscuits and hot coffee will be sold beginning at 7 a.m. in the home economics building. Food, rides, vendors, bluegrass music on and off stage, children’s activities, fried apple pies, and more! Parking is $5. Vendor booths are $30. Limited camping hookups are available. May 7
Coming to the Weogufka Center’s Amphitheater, country music’s great T. Graham Brown! Also performing will be the Griffith Family. This concert will be held Saturday, May 7, beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online at www.griffithfamilymusic.com or at the door. You may also call 256-369-1098 for ticket locations. VIP tickets are $40 each, and general admission tickets are $20. Bring your own chair or blanket. Food will be available. Show produced by GFM, Griffith Family Music.

Goodwater Parks & Rec will host Movie Night at 7 p.m. Friday, May 13, at the Goodwater Auditorium. Ages 10-17. Entry: $3. For more information call 256-743-1252.
Weekly
The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. Quarterly
The Hanover Neighborhood Watch Meeting is held quarterly, typically on the third Tuesday of the month, at the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department building at 6:30 p.m. The spring meeting will be held the third Tuesday in March, the summer meeting on the third Tuesday in June, and the fall meeting on the third Tuesday in September. The winter meeting will be held in December, with the date to be determined at the fall meeting. Always a potluck meal before the meeting begins, and sometimes a special program to follow. Everyone is cordially invited and encouraged to attend. Y’all come!
