Every year Central High School twelfth grade economic students compete in the Stock Market Game presented by the Alabama Council on Economic Education (ACEE) and sponsored by financial advisors Sterne Agee. The teams start with $100,000 to buy and sell stock in a virtual stock market. Students are taught by their economics teacher to diversify their portfolios, pay attention to the news and spot new trends.
The Central High School team of Emilee Brown, Tori Davis and Jeiby Garcia, who are ranked #1 in the region out of 220 teams, have a current total portfolio value of $123,907.99, an almost 24% gain in two months. Their portfolio includes Coinbase Global, a cryptocurrency exchange company; Lululemon, an athletic apparel company; Mandiant, a cybersecurity company; and Tesla, an electric car manufacturer. In addition, the team is ranked #4 out of 1,096 teams in the state. If the team maintains their #1 ranking by the end of the game on April 8 they receive a $150 cash prize. Go Cougars!
