Are you and your family wanting to try something different? Did you give up red meat for Lent? This meat-free recipe will offer something new you can try! Perfect timing to save on ground beef with the prices of groceries increasing, too! See the end of the recipe for information on how you can even use this oatmeal steaks as an alternative to hamburger patties.
Note: If you cannot find Veg-X use beef or chicken bouillon and omit salt.
Ingredients:
1 c. quick cooking oats
1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium potato, grated
1 tsp. salt
3 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. Veg-X dissolved in ½ c. hot hater
Sauce ingredients:
2 c. hot water
1 tsp. Veg-X
1 Tbs. butter (oleo)
2 Tbs. soy sauce
Directions:
Saute onion and potato in oil. Add to other ingredients and mix thoroughly. Drop by large spoonfuls on greased skillet. Brown on both sides. Place in 9×13-inch pan. Add sauce and place in oven. Bake until nearly dry.
To use as hamburger you can fry in oil until done and add favorite sides in a hamburger bun. Enjoy!
