A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 10:40 p.m. Friday, February 25, has claimed the life of an Alexander City man.
Billy Wayne Sims, 25, was attempting to evade deputies with the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office and was fatally injured when the 2014 Chevrolet 1500 pickup he was driving veered off the roadway, struck a ditch and then a tree.
Sims was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced decease at the scene.
The crash occurred on U.S. Highway 280 near the 60 mile marker, approximately eight miles south of Goodwater, in Coosa County.
Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
