My name is Elmore Unbehant, and I am a candidate for County Commission District 1.
I live in the Goodwater community where I serve as chief of the volunteer fire department. Over the years I have worked on multiple community projects that have brought more than $2 million in grants and donations to the area.
I manage the Kellyton Water System and am out and about in the community every day.
My wife, Merry, also works in the community at Goodwater Health Care and also volunteers with the fire department. Together we raise our three daughters in the community where they attend Coosa schools and participate in various activities.
I have been in leadership my entire adult life working as a manager at Madix for more than 25 years and attending many leadership trainings and conferences over the years. In that time I have learned that with all good business it is about respect for the people that promotes growth. This is my philosophy.
It is my goal, if elected, to look for ways to improve the quality of life for all in Coosa County. We must work with the school board to improve the education system and give our children all the opportunities possible to advance in their futures.
I would like to see a job board created and made public in all media possible that shows what projects the commission is working on, roads that are on the list to be repaired or resurfaced, and what is going on at the courthouse and other county offices.
I believe the monthly meetings need to be more transparent with meeting minutes and financial statements made available at each meeting. I will work with all commissioners to get a county-wide litter control program in place and develop a recreational program.
I will also find ways to work with the municipalities to improve local infrastructure such as water and other public services.
I believe that as a commissioner it would be my job to represent the views and concerns of those in the district and to insure that information is communicated to those at the local level so the best possible level of service can be provided.
I pledge to continue to work hard in the community to understand the needs of others, and as your commissioner I will voice those needs daily to all of Coosa County, as well as legislators to make sure Coosa County’s voice is heard. I humbly ask for your support on May 24; together we can go far.
