A native of Goodwater, Dr. Monalesia Chapman has been a registered nurse for 28 years and a nursing educator for 10 years. She was employed at Durham VA Healthcare System for 20 years where she served in the role of nursing professional development specialist for 160 nurses in ambulatory care services.
She just accepted a new position as a clinical nurse research coordinator for the Hematology Oncology Department where she will work with National Oncology Services for the Veterans Health Administration, including precision oncology.
She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro August 2020, with a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Research (PhD).
Her research was focused on colorectal cancer in the veteran population. Her dissertation work was titled “Early Onset Versus Late Onset Colorectal Cancer Trends Among Veterans.”
She was a Jonas Veteran Healthcare Scholar, which is a nationally recognized leadership and scholarship program.
Her most recent publication is an abstract where she presented a podium and poster presentation at the Eleventh AACR Conference on “The Science of Cancer Health Disparities in Racial/Ethnic Minorities and the Medically Underserved;” November 2-5, 2018; in New Orleans, Louisiana.
