Coosa County 4-H is kicking off some programs for area youth next week, including the 4-H Poultry Club and the 4-H Forestry Teams, which start February 14.
Are you planning to raise chicks this spring? Do you already have a backyard flock? Just have a love of chickens?
We want you in our 4-H Poultry Club! The monthly 4-H meetings will include fun, interactive, hands-on learning experiences to help youth learn how to raise successful flocks.
The meetings will also help participants acquire the skills and knowledge needed for the Alabama 4-H Avian Bowl. Members also receive Youth for the Quality Care of Animals certifications.
The Coosa County 4-H Poultry Club starts Monday, February 14, at the 4—H Clubhouse in Hanover. Join them from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
Advance registration is required. Participants attending Central schools will be picked up at school by the 4-H agent at 3 p.m.
Additionally, the 4-H Forestry program helps youth gain a strong understanding of trees, forest management and environmental issues.
Participants will learn how to manage and conserve a variety of forest habitats by acquiring skills in tree species identification, timber measurement, insect and disease identification, compass and pacing, and evaluating forest growth. The teams will work toward competing in the Alabama 4-H Forestry Invitational in June.
The Coosa County 4-H Forestry Teams has its first practice on Monday, February 14, at the 4-H Clubhouse from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Advance registration is required, and participants attending Central schools will be picked up at school by the 4-H agent at 3 p.m.
These and other 4-H programs are open to youth ages 9-18 who live or attend school in Coosa County.
