A Goodwater man was arrested earlier this month on three drug-related charges, including drug trafficking and distribution.
Sheriff Michael Howell reported that on January 7, 60-year-old Christopher Hugh Whiddon was arrested and charged with distribution of a controlled substance, specifically methamphetamine.
He said the case was worked with the Sheriff’s Office and the Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force. Howell said that Whiddon was allegedly selling narcotics, and the Tallapoosa County Task Force assisted with the criminal investigation.
Additionally, he said they obtained a search warrant for Whiddon’s residence, with the U.S. Marshalls also assisting in serving the warrant. In searching the residence they found 44 grams of methamphetamine, scales and firearms.
Whiddon was then additionally charged with drug trafficking – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
His total bond for all three charges was set at $82,500. As of press time he remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
Anyone who observes or suspects illegal activity is encouraged to report it to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4922 or online at www.coosacountyso.org. Anonymous tips are also welcome.
