A Georgia man was arrested earlier this month on burglary and theft charges after allegedly stealing a car, firearms and more.
Sheriff Michael Howell reported that on January 6 there was a report of burglary in the Mt. Olive community. The victim reported that someone had broken into their residence and that the suspect had also stolen their vehicle.
Howell said that within 30 minutes deputies located the victim’s stolen car and the offender off of Alabama Highway 22 in the Ray community.
Shelby Ray Stokes, 24 years old of Georgia, was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary, first-degree theft of property for the automobile and first-degree theft of property for the theft of numerous firearms.
Stokes’ bonds were set at $20,000 for each charge, making his total bond $60,000. As of press time he remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
Howell reported that they were able to recover all of the victim’s stolen property, including the vehicle, firearms and jewelry.
