Coosa County 4-H members were very successful at the Alabama 4-H Livestock Skillathon and Quizbowl events, which were held on the Auburn University campus Friday, January 7, and Saturday, January 8.
For Reagan Cardwell, Jade Williams, Owen White, and Haiden Parris, this was their first time participating at the state competition. They are members of the Coosa County 4-H Livestock Club, which meets once a month and focuses on livestock knowledge and judging.
In the Friday Skillathon events, participants competed in livestock evaluation, livestock identification and quality assurance exercises. On Saturday, the youth participated in a Quizbowl contest.
In the Senior Division of the Friday events, Jade Williams received two individual awards in the Senior Division: fifth place Livestock Evaluation and tenth place Overall. Reagan Cardwell earned ninth place Overall Individual.
As members of the Coosa/Chilton team, they placed second Overall, with a second place award in Livestock Evaluation and third in both Livestock Identification and Quality Assurance.
Junior Division participants Owen White and Haiden Parris earned third place in the Quality Assurance Exercise as members of the Coosa/Chilton team.
In Saturday’s Quizbowl event, the Junior Team won first place in the double-elimination event, losing only one match in the quarter-finals. The Senior Team won third place in their division.
