Union Square News

Union Square held its first Neighborhood Watch meeting of the year on January 3. It was very good to start the year off right.
The year of 2022 has more reasons than one to be happy. It has two; and three of them, too. Think about it for a moment and how “we” and not “I” can work together in peace and love in 2022. Let’s start today.
The Bible shows us in Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, “Two people are better than one because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up.”
We opened our meeting with President Baker leading us in prayer. It was a very sweet spirit, from the beginning to the ending.
Sheriff Howell gave the report of 2021, with many great things accomplished – new camera system, kitchen appliance, etc. – and they saved thousands of dollars over the year.
Union Square community has a lot of love and respect for Sheriff Howell. He has been and is doing a great job for Coosa County. He and his wife, Tasha, are truly Godly people and have the most precious children.
I saw a video of their son (5 or 6 years old) in a wrestling tournament. That was one of the most heartfelt and funniest things that I have experienced from two 6-year-old children. Every time I think of it, I get joy by watching these two little boys wrestle and to know it is only a sport, not a fight. They were taught well. Whoever did the teaching, I say “bravo” to you.
Back to the meeting. We voted and chose to keep our same officials. Why? Because they do such a great job. “If it’s not broke don’t fix it.”
We love what everyone is doing and thank treasurer Susan Rogers and Janice Kilgore for their input on what is happening in the Square. You all are making a difference in the neighborhood, and we are grateful!
Commissioner Ronnie Joiner and Commissioner Unzell Kelley gave us more knowledge of the EMS system and explained that voting was very important for that case.
Judge of Probate Richard Dean reminded us of some important factors that need to be taken care of: tags renewed, wills updated, etc.
The door prize winner was Shirley Ogle, and yours truly was the winner for the neighbor of the month for January. Our next meeting is February 7.
Prayer list: Pastor Chris Hill and family, Mrs. Joyce Taylor, Wayne Weeks and family, Butch Hardman and family, and the Crawford family. We still pray for our neighbor Mrs. Lee Hamilton.
Happy birthday to my great-granddaughter, G’neise Days, who was born on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, January 15. She is just as smart as King was (smile). Yes I said it. However, she is only 7 years old.
Happy birthday to Dr. King. Birthday wishes go out to all January babies.
“The devil can’t stay where God is.”
“If God is your co-pilot, swap seats.”
“Listening is an art we should all strive to learn.”
“People are funny; they want the front of the bus, the middle of the road and the back of the church.”
