Pet of the Week: Libra
The American Veterinary Medical Association says January is both National Train your Dog and Walk your Pet Month. Since it takes a bit of training to teach your dog how to walk nicely on a lead, these two items certainly go hand in hand.
Remember if dogs don’t have the chance to get plenty of outside exercise, they can become frustrated with too much pent up energy leading to poor manners. The best for you and your dog is a fresh-air walk together and possibly a nice treat after you get back if the pet has done well and deserves praise.
The featured Pet of the Week at Elmore County Humane Shelter is Libra, a female bulldog-looking mix, about 2 years old, and 50 pounds. She is a super sweet and laid-back gal. Great with other dogs and cats.
Libra came to the shelter as a stray with another dog, and no one came to claim them. She may just be the perfect pet for your household. If you would like to visit with Libra or any of the shelter residents, you need to complete an application first (COVID-19 regulations to keep down illness through the shelter), and when approved, a date will be set.
Fees for dogs remain the same as they have for many years and include mandatory spay/neuter and all you need to bring them home to love and get to know, including a visit to your vet.
For an application, please call the shelter at 334-567-3377, or email hselco@belksouth.net.
Until next week,
The Dog Lover
