Two men from Clanton were recently arrested on drug-related charges after it was discovered that one of them had warrants.
On December 15, Cpl. Mike Rudd was on patrol on County Road 56 in the Weogufka area when he conducted a traffic stop. Upon making contact, he discovered that the driver, 43-year-old Joshua Craig Smith, had warrants through Chilton County.
Sheriff Michael Howell reported that a search of the vehicle led to finding narcotics, specifically methamphetamine, and three syringes inside the vehicle.
Both Smith and his passenger, 30-year-old Dwayne Batcher, were arrested. Both men were charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Smith has since been released to another jurisdiction because of his warrants.
Bratcher’s total bond was set at $7,000. As of press time he remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
