Students left school at noon for winter break December 17, but basketball teams continued their work on the home court Friday night
Central Coosa Cougars, division 2A, matched up against the Alex City Wildcats, division 6A, at the Joe N. Belyeu gymnasium. Central’s B-Team won with a score of 63-62 with tenth grader Nigel Milliner, pictured, hitting a free throw with 0.4 seconds left in the game.
Central’s varsity boys team was down 34 to 36 at the half, but came back strong in the second half, beating Alex City 78 to 68. Also pictured is senior, number 14, Trae Butler, and junior, number 15, Nehemiah Sanders.
Coosa County school staff receive premium payment, enjoy winter formal
Just before heading off to winter break the staff of Coosa County schools was notified that the Coosa County School Board approved a Premium Payment to school employees for their hard work during the COVID-19 pandemic using ESSER funds.
Coosa County school employees gathered Saturday evening for their inaugural Winter Formal at Poplar Point Camp. The staff enjoyed dinner, dancing and door prizes.
Beta Club members spend part of their winter break bringing warmth, joy to nursing home residents
Beta Club, under the leadership of Mr. Ethan Mynard, spent part of their winter break creating goody bags for nursing home residents. The students brought holiday cheer to nursing homes in Goodwater, Alex City and Sylacuaga as they delivered 251 goody bags for residents. Thank you to Beta Club members Rebekah Burton, Raamiah Gaddis, Zyriah Meadows, Brynli Mitchell, Eden Nickolson, Mallory Parrish, Elijah Richardson, and Caroline Thornton.
