A Talladega man was arrested last month on a marijuana charge following a routine traffic stop.
Sheriff Michael Howell reported that Deputy Bradberry and Reserve Deputy Davis were patrolling the Rockford area heading south on U.S. Highway 231 around County Road 40 when they stopped a vehicle.
The law enforcement officers made contact with the driver, 48-year-old Michael McCain of Talladega, and smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. They conducted a search and located marijuana inside McCain’s vehicle.
He was arrested on November 19 and charged with first-degree possession of marijuana. His was a first-degree charge because he has a prior conviction of second-degree possession of marijuana, which escalated this new charge to a felony.
McCain’s bond was set at $5,000, and he has since been released on bond to await trial.
