We buzzards like to say, “Let’s clean up the road!” Last week, I heard a local citizen say one of my favorite movie lines: “Let’s clean house!” In the movie, the reference was to evil spirits. The citizen was referring to the Coosa County Commission.
Not evil, but not effective. As Ms. McDade pointed out in her column last week (which I read!), people need to speak out to make their government effective. She also noted that the commissioners were very unfortunately behind in reviewing, signing and posting their minutes. With some effort, they caught up to June.
June is five months ago. You pay these people. Tax dollars. And they spend hours listening to complaints about roads, when the road department is their hires. And the road department doesn’t understand basic preventative maintenance, how culverts work, and I could go on…
Well, 2022 is election year, and I say GAME ON!
In keeping with my usual decorum, I will resist personal attacks. I will also avoid partisan comments. Party politics, us vs. them, has no place in local government service.
Each election is a chance for positive change. That is basic democracy. Get ready to rumble through an election where the incumbents have not been treating you right.
I’ll be your eye in the sky. And “The News” will keep you posted.
