October 16 was a very special day for many family members, especially mothers and grandmothers. My grandson, Chesley, made me an even more proud grandmother when he said “I do” to the love of his life, Jasmine.
They both surprised each other with a special wedding gift that will never be forgotten.
Chesley surprised Jasmine by having Bud, John and Laura Harris of Harris Carriage of Rockford to pick her up from the hotel, ride her through the sweet city of Alex City, and bring her to the Mill 280 in Alex City where the wedding and reception were held.
Heads were turned as Jasmine rode with joy, demonstrating a happy queen on a sunny windy day.
Jasmine surprised Chesley with a perfect gift. Chesley had wished that his (deceased) mother could be there to see him whenever he got married. So Jasmine did something very special for him. She added a photo of Chesley’s two daughters to a photo of his mother. She had it enlarged and displayed during the entire wedding and reception.
Janice has been gone for 16 years; she was laid to rest on the 16th, and she saw her son get married on the 16th. She watched us all evening, and we watched her all evening.
They also took some photos of her and her granddaughters with the bride and groom. It was a happy emotional occasion, one we will never forget.
Chesley and Jasmine want to thank everyone for their participation and kindness and for sharing their good words of blessings.
A special thanks goes to Chesley’s chosen grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Harris.
Happy birthday to my best friend, Frankie Cousin, who is also Chesley’s godmother.
Birthday wishes go to Chris Rogers the same day as my darling granddaughter Amirah, Novemeber 11. The Rogers and Johnsons love you guys.
Jerome Hill and Ida Hosa, happy birthday to you.
To all veterans of the world, we say “thank you.” In honor of Dr. Willie Lee Maxwell, you are not forgotten! We will forever love you, the Union Square and Ray communities.
Prayers continue to go to all scarred veterans.
“A new day means a new beginning.”
