Rosie’s Ramblings
Rosie Morgan
Thanksgiving will be arriving before we know it. This holiday is one of my faves as the year comes to an end, and we look forward to what comes in the next. There are no gifts to buy for the whole family and friends we’ve not seen in a good while, so we can concentrate on our most loved foods.
Those who gather together for this meal, wish each other well, share things that they are grateful for, and enjoy the best dishes with those they love. If food prices keep going up, the menu may change; turkey used to be a cheap meat to provide, but I understand this year it may go up by as much as 300%.
Happy birthday to Chris Burns of Kellyton, celebrating another year of getting better November 13.
Alex City Arts has another performance on Thursday, November 18, at The Russell H.S. Auditorium at 7 p.m. This one will be “7 Bridges Road: A Tribute to the Eagles” and is considered the ultimate Eagles experience. This is the last show offered until after the holidays in February. Tickets are available at the door and are $15.
Frankie and Dennis Nordlund worked with Ron and I, doing an excellent job for the A.C. Arts some years back. Ron had to stop and resign from being president and get back to his work that brought in our income, as the best and most knowledgeable lake appraiser that there was. Dennis is now in Chapman’s Nursing Home so Frankie spends most of her days with him there.
They made a super cute fun couple, and Dennis loved his golf and living on the lake. Keep as well as you can, Dennis. Frankie, I did not get your email; please call me again.
Well we may not have many warm sunny days left to enjoy this season, as we have had some mighty cold and some frosty nights this week. Those who live in a house more than 150 years old when insulation was unheard of know how cold a big old house can get, and quickly. Luckily the kitchen/cookhouse was an addition in 1996 and is cozy and warm.
Not much I know of happening around Nixburg, but it seems a lot happened at our home. We have two parakeets (Budgies), a yellow female and a beautiful male; they chirped to each other and got along very well. They stay in the hallway joining the old house to the addition. It all happened so fast; I was replacing the birds’ water, and somehow the dogs were in the small hallway. The female bird that has never tried to get out, liked the home comforts, but she fluttered past my arm and was on the side porch. One of our sweetest dogs grabbed her, and unfortunately when trying to hold her, she got a punctured chest.
I took the bird away, scolded the dog, put the bird in the cage, and she died in a minute. Meanwhile, in the commotion, the pretty male got out just as I was closing the door. He flew around the cabinets, landing on top of the top cabinet board or on the small window ledge. Needless to say, we had to be careful opening the cookhouse door, and for three days, he flew from one side of the room to the other whenever we got close.
Finally the bird flew back into his cage; whew those days were anxious ones. Now he’s been home a few days. He seems sad and lonely, so we will have to find another friend/mate soon.
The next situation was that Ron had four mini strokes November 4 and was taken to Russell ER by the Kellyton ambulance; those there were all great, Kellyton ambulance workers, Coosa Sheriff’s Office and David Dial, a caring volunteer from Equality VFD, and this was just before 4 a.m. You know “when it rains, it pours.” Ron had irregular heartbeats and was very anemic; Dr. Ross Davis installed a pacemaker the following day. The pacemaker will be connected soon, and we’ll work on recovery.
Here we are at Veterans Day. These months roll around so quickly; please remember the veterans of all wars and those that serve us today. They are all strong willed and very brave, always with the good of the people of the U.S.A. in mind, regardless of what needs to be done. God bless America!
Enjoy the warmth as it returns, and until next week, keep smiling.
